About Homatropine 2% Eye Drops

Homatropine 2% eye drops is an anticholinergic eye medicine used mainly to dilate the pupil and relax eye muscles for examinations or to treat eye inflammation. It is used off label for pain relief in uveitis or as part of cough syrups with hydrocodone. It works by blocking acetylcholine in the eye, causing the pupil to enlarge and muscles to rest. Common side effects include blurred vision, stinging, light sensitivity, dry mouth, dizziness, and rarely increased eye pressure. It should not be mixed with alcohol or other anticholinergic drugs, as this can worsen drowsiness, constipation, or confusion. People with glaucoma, severe gut problems, or urinary retention should avoid it. Taking more than 100 mg of homatropine can cause severe confusion, hallucinations, fast heartbeat, fever, difficulty urinating, and even coma.
