About Tizanidine 2 mg

Tizanidine 2 mg tablet is a centrally acting muscle relaxant. Tizanidine 2 mg tablet is used to relieve muscle spasm, stiffness, and pain by acting on the brain and spinal cord. Tizanidine 2 mg works by stimulating alpha-2 adrenergic receptors (which help control nerve signals) and reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters (chemical messengers that cause muscles to tighten), leading to muscle relaxation and improved movement. It should be taken only as prescribed by a doctor, as it can cause side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, dry mouth, and low blood pressure.

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney problems and should not be stopped suddenly. It can be taken before or after food but should be taken the same way each time, and alcohol should be avoided as it increases drowsiness. Overdose (not exceeding 36 mg/day) may cause severe drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, or breathing problems, and immediate medical help should be sought if these symptoms occur.

How Tizanidine 2 mg works

Tizanidine 2 mg tablet works by acting on the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and stimulating alpha-2 adrenergic receptors (special receptors that help control nerve signals). This reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters (chemical messengers that send signals to make muscles contract or tighten). As a result, the excessive nerve signals that cause muscle spasm are reduced, leading to muscle relaxation, decreased stiffness, and relief from pain, making movement easier.
