Lamotrigine Summary

Lamotrigine 25 mg is an oral anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer, commonly prescribed for epilepsy and also for off-label indications like bipolar disorder. It works by blocking sodium channels and reducing glutamate release, as glutamate is responsible for seizures. Common side effects include dizziness, headache, nausea, blurred vision, vomiting, and skin rash. High-protein meals will slightly alter its action, and caution is advised with grapefruit, caffeine, star fruit, and herbal supplements like ginseng and garcinia cambogia due to potential metabolic effects that reduce the drug’s action.

How Lamotrigine Works

Lamotrigine works by calming the extra electrical activity in the brain that causes seizures, which is like a dam controlling the rush of water in a river. In epilepsy, the nerves send too many signals too fast, making the body shake or freeze. Lamotrigine helps slow down this signal flow, bringing balance and keeping the mind steady.
