It stabilizes and thickens the precorneal tear film, which keeps the eyes moist, reduces the evaporation of tears, and prolongs the tear film’s stability this helps relieve dryness, irritation, and discomfort, due to its thickness it allows it to adhere well to the eye’s surface, protecting the cornea and conjunctiva from drying and environmental irritants, while also reducing symptoms caused by blinking and dry eye conditions.

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Summary

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) 0.3% eye drops are artificial tears used to relieve dryness, burning, irritation, and discomfort in the eyes caused by wind, sun, long screen time, or certain medical conditions like dry eye syndrome and Sjögren’s syndrome. They work by forming a soothing, protective layer on the surface of the eye that keeps it moist and reduces friction, much like natural tears.

These drops are generally safe, but some people may experience mild side effects such as temporary blurred vision, eye redness, or stinging after use. This medicine should not be used by people who are allergic to HPMC or any ingredient in the drops, those with active eye infections unless prescribed by a doctor, or by contact lens users unless the label specifically mentions it is safe for lenses. It is also advised to avoid driving or operating machines immediately after using the drops because of possible short-term blurring.
